One of the best ways to experience a culture, a new place, or a people, is through their culinary traditions. Whenever I travel, I eat as much “local” food as possible, so that I can really experience a place in a way that makes sense to me. When I lived in Washington DC, (and anyone who came to visit me will attest to this!) I gave tours to family and friends based on restaurants they had to eat in, and delis that were so worth the lunch that long lines didn’t matter. And of course, living in New Haven, I grew up with an appreciation for food, and am so lucky that in our city we have SO many delicious and amazing cultural traditions and foods to explore!
